The Future of Generative AI in Clinical Care
Session Overview
Generative AI is beginning to reshape healthcare through developments such as clinical decision support systems, diagnostic screening algorithms, and medication safety copilots that are already improving safety and efficiency across multiple specialties. Yet these are only the starting point. The next frontier lies in agentic AI – intelligent, multimodal systems capable of orchestrating workflows, reasoning across clinical data, and supporting complex decision-making. This keynote will highlight lessons from SingHealth’s developments, connect them with global advances, and chart a path toward the concept of an AI-Driven Hospital – where trustworthy GenAI systems are embedded across operations, from documentation to diagnostics. The session will explore the technical challenges of building such systems, including retrieval-augmented pipelines, guardrailing strategies, and critical evaluation frameworks, while offering a forward-looking view on how AI can safely transform clinical practice worldwide.
Speaker

Kabilan Elangovan is an AI Scientist at SingHealth, Singapore’s largest healthcare cluster. He leads research and development of generative AI solutions across multiple clinical specialties, including clinical decision support tools, diagnostic screening algorithms, and safety copilots. His publications span generative AI in medical imaging and large language models for clinical applications, with over 20 peer-reviewed papers and conference abstracts, including works in Nature Medicine, Npj Digital Medicine, PLOS and other leading journals. At SingHealth, he works closely with clinicians to translate AI research into real-world hospital workflows, while also shaping safe and scalable strategies for clinical AI adoption.
